Cyanide is a unique waveshaping distortion effect that gives you a great deal of control over the wave shape.

A fairly standard waveshaping distortion plugin, made more interesting through the use of feedback to control the shaping. Can get pretty loud and obnoxious.

Func Shaper is a waveshaping distortion plugin based on a mathematical expression evaluator. You can enter an expression to create the function which will be used as waveshaping transfer function.

The Delta Series is a plug-in toolkit containing five free plugins that encompass filtering, distortion, phasing, delays and spatialisation.
The Delta Series are available for Mac and Windows VST format. The Macintosh versions are Universal Binaries and require 10.4 or higher to run.
Berrtill is a distortion unit modelled from circuit bent hardware. Might get some interesting effects out of it.

The free version of Camel Crusher appears to be limited to Distortion and Compression -with one individual control for each. Apparently good for guitar and drums.

Wave changer 3 is a free PC VST audio plugin that replaces your sound waves with simple waveforms. It distorts the sound in unusual ways, ranging from weird to horrible.
Try it on some drum loops!

GClip is a wave-shaping signal clipper. It prevents the signal level from exceeding a specified maximum. The clipping function used can be altered to have a hard- or soft-knee.

“Extremist” is a VST multi-effect plugin for guitars on Windows OS. It’s main purpose is distorting guitar signal to receive ‘extremely heavy sound’. This effect is NOT a tube amplifier simulator, and it is NOT a cabinet simulator, however some methods of altering signal are similar to tube amplification characteristics, but only similar!
The effect works in stereo mode, without any latency. It uses 15-band stereo equalizer.
Settings:
Drive, Dry, Wet, Volume - amplification & mixing signals knobs.
Feedback - level of signal feed back.
Clip - clipping level.
Reverb - stereofonic reverb effect, adjustable up to mid delay.
Mid Boost - mid tones booster.
Eq Q - width of equalizer each frequency band.
Pre HPF - filtering low frequencies of effect input.
Post LPF - filtering high frequencies of effect output.
Noise gate - noise gate.
Amp curve - amplification characteristic.
Lock bars - operate equalizer sliders in mono/stereo.
Post gating - noise gate applied before/after effect.
Smoothing - signal smoothing (hiss reduction).

A simplistic distortion plugin, with two modes. The first mode is a modified threshold-type distortion (although the modification isn’t particularly noticeable, sound-wise). The second mode is called Sine Wave distortion, although it’s actually closer to frequency-modulation, as the audio input is used as the index to a sin() function. Works with Windows and Mac.”

SITE IS TEMPORARILY DOWN

Clip-R is a stereo effect which allows you to trim/clip the ceiling (top) and floor (bottom) of any audio you put through it, it also features a boost control which happens before the clipping and can be used to distort the signal in combination with clipping. The left channel is shown in green and the right in red, the clipping level is show in black and this lets you see exactly what is happening to the signal. The effect works well on basses and basic waveforms like a saw etc and can change the shape.

Distroyr is a free stereo distortion VST effect which features a range of different algorithms that effect and generally distort the incoming audio. Depending on the settings you can have analog sounding warmth to your sound to very heavy clipped and crushed sounds. There are a total of 7 different distortion processes including:
- Feedback
- Signal clipping
- Bit crush
- Valve distortion
- Saturate
- Overdrive

The DT 424 is a distortion plugin with separate high- and low frequency distortion, controllable using the threshold settings, pre- and post gain. The 4-band equalizer modifies the distorted sound additionally.
• separate Low and Highfrequency distortion
• pre-gain, threshold and post-gain distortion controls
• 4-Band equalizer for additional sound control
• output amplifier

thrummaschine is a 3-band distortion effect with independant, LFO-driven filters. Make your bass, mid and high frequencies oscillate at different speeds, shapes and pan, with whatever flavour and level of distortion you dial in for each band- 3 user-defined bands for bass, mid and high freqencies, with overlap if required- 3 filters with tempo-sync LFO, for each freq band- overdrive, distortion and bitcrush effects- send level for each band to each effect- pan and volume for each band!!WARNING!! Thrummaschine is capable of nasty loudness if you push the settings hard, keep volumes low while you play with the controls

sumo is an effect plugin to make any sound as fat as you like
It’s good for fattening up leads and basses, adding some weight to pads, making your vocals chubby and your drums obese

boost is a dual-band, parallel compression effect that enhances your audio by boosting the lows and highs whilst still letting some of the original signal through to get a nice blend. Increase the gain to get more compression, then tweak the low and high band to suit the sound you want. The boost knob increases the mix of compressed audio with the dry signal.
- dual band stereo compressors for low and high frequencies
- parallel compression mixes dry audio with compressed audio to preserve transients
- gain reduction indicators so you can see when compressors are working
- boost knob increases mix of wet signal
- gain knob increases input gain to desired compression level
- high and low knob increase output gain of each freq band
- all knobs are mapped to midi CC’s

THD analog-style saturator
This is no typical high-gain distortion device, nor a ‘decimator’ or bit crusher. The plugin is intended for a mixer’s insert path to act as a preamp stage. It smoothes out the transients, gives more overall gain and warms a bit.

A collection of the guitar effects to be downloaded together. Mostly Distortion and auto-panning.

A new dynamic saturation VST effect particularly suitable for drums, guitar
and overall mixes

This free plugin will distort your audio subtly or to the extreme ! Nastyshaper features:Pre and Post gain knobs3 different waveshaping functions. Shape 1 has 4 stages, Shapes 2/3 have 2 stagesAn 8x oversampling mode for high-quality offline rendering

PWMDrive is a saturator/softclipper/waveshaper with offset. I came up with the idea when reading about tube-amplifiers where the distorsion wasn’t symmetrical around zero.
I called it PWMDrive since, when maxed out, it can produce sounds similar to a pulse-width-modulated square wave.
The waveshaping function is out = in/(1+in)). Actually its like that on positive x, and symmetrical around zero) I’m not sure if this is similar to a “real” tube, but it sounds great, if you have any suggestions on different shape-functions, that have similar (or less) cost, please let me know.
An sweet-sounding oversampling option is provided, mainly meant to be used at mixdown-time, since it’s rather expensive.
The steps performed are:
Measure the amplitude
DC-Offset signal depending on amplitude (lfo-controlled)
Gain
SoftClip
HiPass (to remove dc)
Gain

Crossover Distortion

A waveshaper based on the chebyshev polynom.

Flanging, bit crunching, distortion effect inspired by the Alesis Bitrman f/x unit.

The idea was to create a degrader/distortion effect that doesn’t sound harsh & doesn’t apply any bit-crushing. The controls are not labeled, they each affect several parameters within the cirquit. Tweak untill you like what you hear would be the best way to go at it…

Note: very crusty/glitchy, destroyed sound
is uses tons of clipping with a compressor and limiter.
