AudioSonic

DigiDrum Pro is a five part drum and percussion VST plugin suitable for most genres of digital music production. It features an intuitive user interface packed with loads of sound editing parameters. The sound itself comes from a wave rom containing reproductions designed to resemble classic percussive instruments. Cubix is a drumsynth/sampleplayer with an onboard arpeggiated bassline synth. Each drum section has it’s own dual X-Fade sequencer section for beat mixing, as well as an Auto-Mix function. Designed with live operation in mind, Cubix can be used for making complex beats on the fly that can be randomized, mixed, matched and manipulated in a number of ways.

Cygnus was originally a collaboration between synth designer Ian Webster and sound designer Tim Conrardy. Now, spurred on by an off the cuff suggestion by Gearwire’s own Dan Agosto, Ian has taken his classic free VST and given it new life by adding 3 new sampling oscillators that accept the sf2 format. The integrated mix controls allow you to crossfade between each of the standard oscillators and the soundfont playback ones discreetly. All of the soundfont players have individual control over level, mix, and pitch. Finally, everything is summed into the Cygnus effects line.

DaHornet is a virtual simulation of the WASP synth, which offers up a wide assortment of great bass sounds. It is one of the rare VSTi’s that includes MIDI-learn, and a random-patch generator. DaHornet used to be a commercial product, but is now free to download, and the registration serial number is given on the download page.

erratic erratic is a drum sample player with some added ‘randomising’ features to give variation on every cycle. The randomising is adjustable for each sample and can be switched off if desired. You can independantly adjust the randomisation of;
- hit probability for each of the steps in the sequencer for each sample
- hit velocity spread for each of the steps in the sequencer for each sample
- pitch variation for each sample
- swing (hit timing variation) for each sample
- swing on a global level (in addition to the per sample swing)

In addition, you can adjust
- hit velocity for each of the steps in the sequencer for each sample
- volume, panning and pitch for each sample

Pethu

My first - and probably only - attempt at a hardware synth emulation!

The reasons for this one is purely nostalgic - I used to own one of these back in the 80’s. The hardware version was manufactured by a Big Japanese Company, and it was quite popular as an entry-level, ultra-portable and above all cheap synthesizer. If there is one piece of old gear I truly miss now and then, this is it. Not for its sound, but just because it was so darn cute! Well, here it is again - in VSTi format. Hardware synth buffs and those who were there at the time, enjoy!

The “son of Hahaha CS01″

Whereas the CS01 is barely more than a synth-historical artefact, the CS33 builds on the concept and is quite a capable little synth even by today’s standard. While it can do all sorts of “bread and butter” sounds, its signature sounds come from the PWM oscillator waveforms, twin linked filter modes and the built-in distortion effects.

Sounds good, but it may be slow.
IFF Synth is an Additive/Subtractive synth created In SynthEdit. It includes a single wavetable oscillator with 64 indexes that can be morphed between each other. You can edit the waveform harmonics and/or the waveshape itself. There are 6 independent envelopes, that can act like LFOs when looped. All onboard Effects and Mixer parameters can be modulated as well.

Piz

Uses simulated digital logic to make itself sound bad. Don’t play too many high notes or your computer will explode.
